Tips: AC circuit breaker for DC circuit
The AC circuit breaker can be derived to protect the DC circuit. However, the changes of the following three points should be paid attentions:

  1. Overload long time delay protection: When the thermal type (bimetallic element) is used for the overload long time delay protection, its action source is I2R. The effective value of AC current is equivalent to the average DC value. Therefore, it can be used without any modification. However, as to the heavy current specification and the secondary side current of the current transformer is used for heating, it can not be used because the instrument transformer is unable to be used for the DC current.
  2. As to the accessories of the circuit breaker, such as the shunt release, under-voltage release, electric operating mechanism and so on, the shunt and under-voltage are both in the voltage circuit. Once the voltage value is consistent, those used for the AC system can also be used for DC system without making any modification. The auxiliary and alarm contacts can be used for both AC and DC currents. The electric operating mechanism has to be redesigned if it is used for DC current.
  3. Unlike the AC current, the DC current has no characteristic of zero crossing point. It is difficult in breaking the DC short-circuit current (even the fault current with low multiplies) and extinguishing the arc. Therefore, the wiring must employ the dipolar or tripolar series connection to increase the fractures, so that various fractures will be able to sustain some arc energy.
