Tips: How Does a Thermal Label Printer Work?

A thermal label printer works like a thermal fax machine. It has a semiconductor heating element on the print head, which heats up and touches the thermal paper to produce the desired image. The image is created by a chemical reaction in the film caused by heating. This thermal printer chemical reaction is carried out at a certain temperature. The high temperature will accelerate this chemical reaction. When the temperature is lower than 60℃, it takes quite a long time, even several years, for the paper to turn dark. At a temperature of 200℃, the reaction takes a few microseconds. The heating is provided by a small electronic heater on the print head in contact with the thermal material. The form of the heater arranged in square points or bars is logically controlled by the printer. When driven, a graph corresponding to the heating element is generated on the thermal paper. The same logic circuits that control the heating elements also control the feed, thus printing graphics on the entire label or paper.
