Tips: Refractometer working principle.

Refractometer is an optical instrument that works on the basis of total internal reflection. When light enter another transparent medium from a transparent medium, it causes refraction. The incidence angle of light when this phenomenon occurs is called critical angle. The phenomenon is due to the difference in speed at which light travels in a variety of different medium. Refractive index is the ratio of speed at which light travels through air to the speed at which it travels in other medium. The magnitude of critical angle is determined strictly by refractive index of the two species.
Analysis of the liquid is based on analysis of solution concentration. Refractive index of the solution has a certain correspondence with its concentration, and solution concentration can be measured by conversion based on the correspondence. As the density of a substance increases, its refractive index increases accordingly. Refractometer is an instrument that uses the above principle to measure refractive index, birefringence, and light.
