Tips: How does the portable spectrophotometer colorimeter improve the color fastness of silk?

Portable pectrophotometers color meter can help you improve your manufacturing process and test the durability of your textiles under specific environmental conditions to improve the color fastness of silk. When you use mordant and fabric dyes to process raw silk, you can first test the best color of the fabric when exposed to sunlight, rubbing and washing. By testing the dyed silk test sample with a spectrophotometer, you will see how quickly your product will fade under these conditions, and you can optimize your mordant and dye formulations to improve color fastness.

The portable spectrometer will set the initial color standard of the product (the color when the product is first dyed), and then you can compare future measurements to this standard. For example, if you dye a silk sample and use an aluminum mordant to set up the dye, you may find that your sample begins to fade after five washes. In response, you can use iron mordant and apply your silk to the polymer film to improve the fastness. To test whether these changes do have a positive effect on the color fastness of your silk, you can wash the sample five times to see if it improves color retention. In addition, once you have refined your manufacturing process and dye formulation, you can test future silk products to ensure they are consistent in color between batches.
