Tips: Circuit structure of switching power supply (SMPS)

Switching power supply (SMPS) is composed of main circuit, control circuit, detection circuit, and auxiliary power supply.

  1. Main circuit
Amplitude limiter for surge current: limits input surge current when connected to power supply.
Input filter: filters noise wave of power grid and prevent noise wave generated by the input filter from being fed back to the power grid.
Rectification and smoothing: make AC rectified into smooth DC.
Inversion: convert rectified DC into high-frequency AC, which is a core part of high-frequency switching power supply.
Output rectification and smoothing: provide stable and reliable DC according to load demands.
  2. Control circuit
Take a sample at output end to make a comparison with set value and regulate output current by changing pulse width or pulse frequency through inverter. Protect power supply according to data provided by test circuit and identified by protective circuit.
  3. Detection circuit
Specify parameters and instrument data of the protective circuit.
  4. Auxiliary power supply
Enable software (remote) startup of the power supply. Supply power to the protective and control circuits (PWM and other chips).
