Tips: What does the dynamic range mean in an industrial camera?
The dynamic range of the industrial camera indicates the range of the optical signal detected by the camera. The dynamic range can be defined by two methods. One is the optical dynamic range, which refers to the ratio between the maximum intensity of light at saturation and the light intensity equivalent to the noise output, and it’s determined by the characteristics of the chip. The other is the electronic dynamic range, which refers to the ratio between the saturation voltage and the noise voltage.
As for a fixed camera, the dynamic range is a constant value and it doesn’t change with external conditions. In the linear response area, the dynamic range of a camera is defined as the ratio of the saturated exposure to the noise equivalent exposure: dynamic range = full well capacity of the photosensitive element / equivalent noise signal. The dynamic range can be expressed by multiple, dB or Bit. The larger the dynamic range is, the stronger adaptability the camera has to different light intensity.
