Tips: How to choose an industrial camera?
Let's illustrate it with an actual application. For example, our testing task is size measurement. The product size is 18mm*10mm with the precision 0.01mm. The detection speed is 10 pieces per second in an assembly line work, and the field environment is an ordinary industrial environment. Interference shall not be considered.
Firstly, as we know that the speed of assembly line work is rather fast, so we choose a progressive scan camera.
We set the view size to 20mm*12mm (considering the error of each mechanical positioning, we magnify the view than the object). If we can get a good image (for example, backlight is allowed) and measurement accuracy of our software can be considered to 1/2 sub-pixel accuracy, then the camera resolution we need shall be 20/0.01/2=1000pixcel and that of another direction is 12/0.01/2=600pixcel. That means, the resolution of our camera shall be at least 1000*600pixcel and the frame rate shall be 10 frame/sec. So we choose a camera with a resolution of 1024*768 (1280*1024pixcel is also available if the software performance and mechanical precision are not accurate) and the frame rate of above 10 frame/sec.
